David Popwell is chief operating officer of First Tennessee Bank. He is responsible for product and business model development and overseeing certain operational and customer service functions related to the consumer lending center, business lending center, business service center, and customer care call center. Prior to joining First Tennessee, Popwell held various executive positions. He was chairman, president and CEO of SunTrust bank in Memphis, executive vice president of National Commerce Financial Corp., and shareholder with the law firm Baker, Donelson, Bearman, and Caldwell. Popwell earned a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Alabama, a Juris Doctorate from Washington and Lee University School of Law and a master of laws in taxation from New York University School of Law.
